If you don’t know the name, Veronika Scott, you should. Why? Because Veronika is doing something that should inspire us all to try a little harder. It started with a college class assignment: develop something that fulfills an actual need. Veronika started to research homeless shelters to see what she could do to make their lives just a little bit better. Knowing winters are vicious for those without shelter, she created a coat that transforms into a sleeping bag. Need fulfilled. However, it wasn’t until the day Veronika was confronted by a woman living in the shelter she was researching, that her idea transformed into something much much greater. The woman, Veronika retells, said, we don’t need coats, we need jobs;. Instead of being offended, Veronika saw the validity in the woman’s statement. Today, as CEO of The Empowerment Plan, Veronika employs those who need jobs most – the very same group of people she had once researched for her coat design. Every employee receives the training they need, whether it is sewing or tech – you name it, they get it. Now, Gap has rolled Veronika’s achievements into a spot for their #WomenInspire campaign, but we can all agree that what Veronika has done is much more far-reaching than that.
