A growing number of major advertisers are abandoning Facebook amid criticism the social media company is letting hateful or false posts go unchecked. Chipotle, HP, Pfizer and Puma are the latest to pull their ads from Facebook. They join a list of major brands including Adidas, Clorox, Coca-Cola, Conagra, Denny’s, Ford, Starbucks, Unilever that have already left the social media platform. In a lengthy Facebook post, Zuckerberg responded to the boycott by committing to remove content that “incites violence” or suppresses voting. “We may never be able to prevent hate from appearing on Facebook entirely, but we are getting better at stopping it all the time,” Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs/communications, tweeted on Wednesday. Bottom line, this is getting real and all eyes are on Zuckerberg.
