Ethan Dean, a 6-year-old boy from California, dreamed of only one thing. He wanted to be a garbageman. The Make-A-Wish Foundation’s northeastern California and northern Nevada chapter treated Ethan to a day on the job as a garbageman. They surprised Ethan, who has cystic fibrosis, at school where he changed quickly into his uniform and joined garbageman Sam on the truck. “His face just lit up when he saw the garbage truck”, his mom explained. “He couldn’t believe it”. The young boy rode around downtown Sacramento before ending the day at the state Capitol for a special tour of the governor’s office. Ethan and his family were overjoyed by the amount of people happily cheering as he rode by them. If for nothing else it was a day for the first-grader to forget about his illness and vigorous treatments and simply be a kid. The whole day was about Ethan living the life of his dream job. He’s been fascinated and in love with garbage trucks since he was a toddler and would love to sit and watch them as they drove by. It’s heartwarming stories such as Ethan’s that inspires, invokes, and touches milk*.
