The name “Ellen” and the word “kindness” have long gone hand-in-hand. But a recent televised gesture further strengthened that connection, as she, the Cheerios brand, and the College of Charleston collaborated to help two South Carolina teens earn an education.
High-school seniors Darius Smith and Jaheim President were invited onto the show with only a limited idea as to why. On the air, they explained that they’re both planning to become educators, and that they’re both hoping to go to the College of Charleston (Darius had already been accepted, and Jaheim was waiting to hear from the school).
Ellen first announced that she had Jaheim’s admissions decision in her possession, which of course turned out to be an acceptance letter. She then went on to tell them that the college had decided to pay for both of their tuitions in full, and Ellen and Cheerios together were providing them an additional $20,000 each for other expenses.
Lastly, she announced that she and Cheerios would be donating $10,000 to their high school.
If you need to see a ray of light in the college admissions process (and let’s face it – after recent scandals, we all do!), look no further than this video.
