Nine seasons. 3 Super Bowl rings. One Gronk. It’s official, the former New England Patriots tight end is not returning to play another season. Instead, Rob Gronkowski is moving on to retirement, and in a new direction.
It was recently announced Gronkowski will be partnering with Abacus Health, a Rhode Island-based cannabidiol company to promote products for athletes. Gronk stated he has been using CBD products himself for his rehabilitation process and encourages other players to do so.
However, CBD has been banned in many pro sports venues. The US Anti-Doping Agency warns athletes that CBD products could be risky, due to the fact that when extracted from marijuana plants THC could come too.
While Gronk’s retirement may have come as a shock, we never know if we might see him play again in the future. The former player said he was at a low point after the last Super Bowl victory, with so much pain he could barely walk. It is why he claims he needs time to recover, and maybe will rejoin the field someday.
For now, he will continue raising awareness of CBD. In the words of Gronk, “…just call me Mr. Recovery. You know you like that name. Mr. Recovery, baby.”
