The Oscar’s isn’t the only organization accused of only nominating a select group of insiders. Last year, the Hugo Awards for science fiction and fantasy writing faced the same criticism, so this year, publishers are looking for writers that are a little more diverse. Take Last Song Before Night by Ilana C. Myer for example. Myer’s debut novel quickly rose to the top of the charts with her romanticized version of sci-fi, something different from the endless fight-scenes we are used to. If Myer’s breakthrough is any indication, we’re looking forward to a lot of new voices, and even better sci-fi for 2016.
