Investors Ask Nike, FedEx, and PepsiCo to End Relationship with the Washington Redskins

When FedEx issued their statement asking the team to change the NFL’s Washington Redskins name, controversary immediately surrounded the announcement. Three separate letters signed by 87 investment firms shareholders worth a collective $620 billion asked Nike, FedEx and PepsiCo to terminate their business relationships with the NFL’s Washington Redskins unless they change their name. The origin of the word “redskin” has long been disputed by linguists, Native American activists who consider it a slur, and those who insist that the name of Washington’s football team honors Indians rather than disparages them.
