One of the greatest debates in film history has officially been settled. “Die Hard” is, in fact, a Christmas movie.
At least that’s what its production company, 20th Century Fox, wants us to believe. They’ve released a re-cut trailer for the film that portrays it as a lighthearted comedy and calls it “the greatest Christmas story ever told.” The video garnered over 100,000 views on YouTube in less than 24 hours.
It’s a debate that has ruled online forums and social media for a long time now, given that the film takes place at Christmas time. But let’s face it: people’s minds probably won’t be made up by a video released 30 years after the fact. You either watch it around the holidays, or you don’t.
I think we all know 20th Century Fox wasn’t really trying to change anybody’s mind. They were making an effort to keep their film relevant three decades later – and it’s safe to say that they’ve succeeded!
