Someone is trying to be as innovative as Tesla. Hyundai and Uber have teamed up to work on a flying ride-share network. That’s right. Flying. Cars.
Uber has already been in the works with aerospace companies, but Hyundai is the first automaker to join them. Their goal is to launch commercial flights by 2023. Hyundai would focus on the aircraft itself, whereas Uber would take control of the ride-share network.
The cars would be designed to fly up to 180 mph for maximum 60 miles. While they would be piloted initially, Uber and Hyundai hope to one day make them autonomous.
While this concept is exciting and innovating, many are sceptic the two companies can turn this into a reality. Flying cars must undergo extremely high regulatory tests, and it is unclear if one day a model will pass. Keep an eye out in 2023, because your next ride might be through the air.
