It’s no surprise – voting is imperative. No where near enough of Americans participate in this powerful privilege. Since it’s a known fact that not enough people vote, companies have gotten creative in their plea to please, please get out and vote during the midterm election.
Ride sharing company Lyft created a powerful art installation out of unused ballots to raise awareness. In an effort to combat the typical lackluster voting turnout, Lyft is offering a 50% off discount for voters, to make it cheaper for them to hit the polls. Ad Week shares, ““We want to make it easier to get to the polls so people across the country can exercise their right to vote,” explained Mike Masserman, head of social impact for Lyft, via email. “Access to transportation is a major issue for many voters and we want to use our platform to help eliminate that pain point from the voting process and help ensure everyone’s voice can be heard.”
The wall is helpful to create awareness for this initiative that could directly impact the voter turnout. Lyft isn’t the only company putting forth effort to encourage voting in 2018. An article in the New York Times says, “Patagonia is shutting its corporate campus and its retail stores in the United States for the entire day. Levi’s is giving corporate employees five hours to vote on Election Day, and retail employees will get three hours. Walmart created a website with resources to help people get informed and to the polls.”
It’s exciting to see companies shift their priorities towards the greater good of the US population to remind us to participate in our biggest civic duty: VOTING! Make sure you’re heading to the polls this Tuesday. For more information on your local election, go here.
