Here’s some spellbinding news! Our friends at Harvard have developed a real life spell to make objects levitate. Well, maybe not a spell and maybe not ‘real’ levitation but they are certainly on their way. Scientists in Harvard’s Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology have started to use magnetic levitation to manipulate small objects. Historically this system has been used to separate materials based on their density but they are now finding that they can manipulate singular objects when placed in similar conditions. By using a chamber filled with magnetic liquid and some nifty magnets they are able to move small objects, like screws, without physically touching them. Harvard’s “spell” still needs more practice. Maybe Hermione can help? Read More.
