Marcia Clark Finally Wins

September 30, 2016

‘The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story’ received universal acclaim from its critics for the series sharp writing, directing, and acting on a still-topical story. Many critics positively singled out Sarah Paulson’s phenomenal portrayal of the trial’s head prosecutor, Marcia Clark. Paulson, an Emmy favorite, brought Clark as her guest to the 2016 Emmys, giving Clark her long-awaited moment. During Paulson’s acceptance speech for best actress for the role, Paulson gave a moving public apology to Clark sympathetically saying ‘that the public in the 1990s was superficial and careless’. Back then, the news media outwardly ridiculed Clark on her physical appearance, failing marriage, career decisions, and ultimately blaming her for letting OJ Simpson go free. “The world saw me in sound bites”, Clark said referring to the media coverage at the time of the trial. “Now I feel like I’m more understood.” As Paulson headed to the winners circles to have her trophy engraved with Clark’s name, it was a moment to digest for all. Ryan Murphy, the prolific television producer, accurately said, “The great story tonight is Marcia Clark finally won.”
