New Ruling by NFL Brings Its Players into Beer Marketing

June 7, 2019

Active NFL players have been no strangers to advertising recently, with massive Super Bowl spots often featuring the league’s own stars. But now we’ll be seeing more of them with beer in hand, thanks to a recent decision by the NFL to adjust its alcohol-related marketing policies.

This marks the first time the league’s active players will be allowed in beer advertising, though only for brands that sponsor the league. Liquor brands will still not be allowed to use the players, at least for the time being.

Prior to this decision, the NFL had been unique in its strict regulations in this regard, as other leagues have already been allowing their stars in beer ads.

It’s hard to imagine that footballers in beer advertising hasn’t happened before, seeing how many NFL stars have taken over the ad space (see Mean Joe Green, Peyton Manning, etc.). But one thing’s for sure – it won’t be long until major brands start taking advantage of this new opportunity.
