One of the best (but not easy!) ways to make a successful ad is to create a piece of work that is so impressive that people forget that what they’re looking at is even an advertisement. Spotify just rolled out an exciting and artistic homage to David Bowie two years after his death by transforming a New York City subway stations. “Spotify’s interactive exhibit turns the walls and other surfaces of the Broadway-Lafayette station into a celebration of Bowie aimed at promoting not only awareness of his history in the neighborhood, but also the “David Bowie is” exhibit currently on display at the Brooklyn Museum.” The ads can be seen in New York City until May 13th in a plethora of different designs. In several of the pieces, there is a focus on Spotify’s new series called “David Bowie Series” which feature different essays, songs, and other behind the scenes looks at his career. The ads successfully promote the music-streaming platform while honoring the history and memory of musical icon David Bowie. Do you think these ads made a successful impact?
