This past Saturday, May 19th, American actress Meghan Markle wed British royalty Prince Harry in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England. The couple has been engaged since November 27th, 2017 following about a yearlong relationship according to a statement released by the Royal Family. Meghan’s introduction into the British Royal Family makes her the first American royal since 1937. Meghan is also one of the first biracial women to be apart of the Royal Family, marking a huge step forward for England, due to their preexisting struggle to unify their diverse population. Furthermore, the trailblazing ceremony featured a powerful sermon in which American Bishop Michael Curry stated, “We must discover the power of love, the power, the redemptive power of love and when we do that, we will make of this whole world a new world. But love, love is the only way.” This nontraditional address left guests awe-struck and brought even more attention to the affair. Soon after leaving the ceremony, Meghan and Harry shared their first kiss as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in front of charmed onlookers before they departed on a horse-drawn carriage. The procession of the newlyweds drew over 100,000 well-wishers. The night concluded with a reception that had over 600 guests, including some of the biggest names in pop culture such as Oprah and Elton John.
