Snapchat Success Slowing Down

August 10, 2018

Snapchat’s growth continues to fizzle.

In its prime, Snapchat was at the forefront of social media. Billions of users logged on to send their trademark disappearing-in-10-seconds photos to their friends. However, for the first time in the platform’s history, they are losing daily active users.

According to PCMAG.com “Snap Inc’s latest earnings report marked a first for social media company: a decline of three million daily active users in the second quarter of 2018, from 191 million down to 188 million DAUs.” Many factors could have lead to the downfall such as Instagram creating a story feature that mimicked the longstanding story page on Snapchat.

Later, in an effort to make more changes, the company created a new design for the application – and it totally backfired. “Snap CEO Evan Spiegel chalked up the drop to the negative reaction to its major user interface redesign, but that’s not the only factor slowing Snapchat’s growth; it has fallen far behind other social-media platforms.”

2018 has been a challenging year for the app in several different arenas, for example, in February, Kylie Jenner post one tweet expressing her lack of snapchat use. The ramifications? Snapchats value dropped $1.3 billion. The amalgam of unfortunate luck and decisions has made many users ditch the app altogether and just shared with their friends on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. So this begs the question, are you still snapping?
