Neil Armstrong had a secret. The first man on the moon kept a souvenir now infamously dubbed “The Purse” in the aeronautics community. The Purse is essentially what it sounds like: a bag. However, this particular bag contains parts from the original Apollo 11 journey, most notably, the 16mm movie camera used to film the descent to the lunar surface, the landing, and Neil Armstrong’s and Buzz Aldrin’s exploration of the lunar surface which includes planting the US flag. …No big deal The best part about all of this is that Armstrong kept The Purse in a closet and didn’t even tell his wife of its existence. Just a little secret to remind him that yes, he was indeed the first man on the moon. The Purse is now on loan to the National Air and Space museum.
