The Age of the Disney Remake

November 14, 2017

Walt Disney’s retro spin of their vault classics, ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘Beauty & The Beast’, has brought the media and entertainment conglomerate much success recently. So, it should come as no surprise the next remake will be ‘The Lion King’ directed by Jon Favreau. ‘The Jungle Book’ director has already lined up an impressive cast, including Beyoncé as Nala. Chiwetel Ejiofor is stepping into the villainous role of Scar, Alfre Woodard is voicing Sarabi, John Kani as Rafiki and many other A list celebrities. “It’s a director’s dream to assemble a talented team like this to bring this classic story to life,” Favreau said. James Earl Jones will reprise his role from the 1994 original as Simba’s father Mufasa. Favreau will tell the same story of Simba, a young lion who is destined to become ruler of the animal kingdom – only to have his calculating uncle intervene. The original ‘The Lion King’ grossed more than $968 million worldwide. But with Favreau’s new version, it will no doubt be an incredible achievement in terms of visuals and effects. He showed off the jaw-dropping first footage over the summer which featured real African landscapes and animals. While we have to wait two years to see the film, with a cast and storyline this iconic, it’s worth the anticipated wait.
