The Evolution Of Cool Car Doors

March 28, 2017

Let’s be honest, when you think of a door you don’t think of much, right? They really only provide one function, allowing us to pass through from one point to another. But the creativity ‘door’ opens so to speak wider when we were talking about cars. Cars tell a unique story about where they came from and their owner. If we look back at the evolution of car door designs we’ll quickly see that are much more than a vestibule. In 1961 the Lincoln Continental decided to capitalize on the existing model space and simply flipped the hinge on the rear doors. Although this wasn’t the first for the suicide doors, the Lincoln Continental still reigns at doing it the best. In 1982 came The DeLoren and car doors were never looked at the same. Many car enthusiasts would agree that it was such an epic and revolutionary model (even without Back To The Future), the scissor doors of The DeLoren eternally deserves praise and admirable attention. The BMW Z1 was a car design that went completely against the scissor doors and eliminated doors all together. Some could argue it may not have been the most stylish or practical, but at the time it was the most different during its era. Flash forward a few years (well maybe about 27 years) and we have the batmobile. Produced in Lebanon by U.A.E, the first hypercar opens in reverse and mimic’s robotic features. Is this the coolest door yet?!
