As denim makes a roaring comeback following a year of loungewear and sweatpants, people are finally putting their skinny jeans to rest. As we begin a “new denim cycle,” as coined by Levi’s CEO, there is an increased want for bootcut, straight, and cigarette-legged jeans. Even low-rise fit, a look particularly triggering to the millennial generation, is overshadowing the high-waisted style, which has been popular for years.
The most famous of Gen-Z icons, from Bella Hadid to Hailey Bieber to Billie Eilish, have all sported looks that 90s fashion moguls at one point were made fun of for. However, in keeping with Gen-Z’s appreciation for sustainability and being frugal, the trend of shopping second-hand for vintage goods has helped the denim industry to make its return. The versatility in what’s trending in the realm of all things denim bodes well for the people who never emptied their closets of their looser and lower-rise pants, because styles that were once neglected all seem to be making a comeback.
