Over the years fashion can change dramatically. Trends come and go, some lasting for years while others are only “in” for a few months. But the latest shoe trend is rather unusual, fairly ugly, and yet selling out for hundreds, even thousands of dollars.
The shoes are called “big-toe” heels and are similar to a regular heel but the big toe is exposed while the rest are covered. The style was introduced last year in Y/Project’s collection but have reappeared this year with Glenn Marten.
Even more wild than the look is the price these shoes are selling for. Many pairs go upwards of $1000, and all selling out like crazy. The toe-separation idea was first created by designer Maison Margiela in 1989, and now it appears to be back in action.
If you’re curious about the shoes, or want to buy a pair for yourself, just look up the trending hashtag #BigToeShoe. There are not only heels, but boots and flats to choose from as well. While the style looks uncomfortable and a bit bizarre, it only appears to be picking up support in the fashion world. What will we see next?
