This week everyone is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, including Spotify. In honor of the mission, they are highlighting “Moon”-associated songs as well as ones that space travelers listen to above Earth.
It is crazy to think that when Apollo 11 launched on July 20, 1969, it had a main computer with about 64KB of memory. Today, one can find 64GB in a single iPhone, storing more than a million times the data the technology for the mission could.
Spotify contains over 185,000 tracks that have “Moon” in the title. And while the crew on Apollo 11 may not have experienced live streaming, they did bring along customized mixtapes. Furthermore, NASA revealed that some of the most popular songs used to wake-up crews during missions include “Run the World (Girls)” by Beyoncé and “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles.
You can join in on the celebrations too by listening to your own favorite ‘Moon’ songs. Just think, if 50 years ago we were reaching the moon, what giant leaps will mankind take in the next 50 years?
