Kerri Walsh Jennings and Misty May-Treanor were the world’s most powerful and successful women’s beach volleyball partners for 11 years. They have been repeatedly referred to as “the greatest beach volleyball team of all time”. After the 2012 London Games, May-Treanor retired, but her other playing half wasn’t ready just yet. Walsh Jennings found a new partner in April Ross, a past competitor of hers. Walsh Jennings and May-Treanor beat Ross and her partner in the gold metal match in London. After the match’s conclusion, Walsh Jennings allegedly told Ross, “Let’s go get gold in Rio.” With the line in the sand gone, these two powerhouse players united. “I’ve never played with anyone with as much energy as April has,” Walsh Jennings told ESPNW. “It’s like looking in a mirror out there. I think we’re really similar in the way we play and the way we feel about playing.” At 6’3 and 6’1, the women have shown to be good complements to their game. Walsh Jennings still dominates around the net and Ross is the strong setter. Even though they are relatively ‘new’ partners, they were already ranked the No. 3 pairing team in the games. It was a new Olympics with a new duo.
